Update: Our Browser Extension Has Been Revamped

Our browser extension has been updated to match the new Keeping style. Support for labels has been added, and its functionality has been improved for greater stability.

Browser Extension Update to Version 2.0

As of February 10, 2025, our browser extension has been updated to version 2.0. This brings the extension fully in line with the latest Google guidelines and the fresh Keeping style rolled out on the web in May 2024.

Goodbye to the Handy Buttons

The biggest change is the removal of the handy buttons that the extension previously injected into the HTML structure of supported apps like Jira, Asana, Trello, Basecamp, and GitHub.

The reason for removing these buttons, technically called "injecting," is simple: maintainability. The various SaaS platforms the extension supports are constantly changing.
This meant the extension needed updates every time one of the supported SaaS platforms released a new version.

We’ve maintained this approach since 2017, but we’ve now decided to stop supporting the injected buttons to ensure more continuity.

Updated Context Menu

To compensate for the removed buttons, the context menu, opened with the right-click, has been updated. It now contains three options when you right-click a link within a supported SaaS:

  • Start or resume the timer for an External Reference;
  • Create a New time entry for an External Reference;
  • Start or resume the timer for a Description (selected text).

The first two options let you create a time entry for the selected todo, story, or link. The extension automatically detects which SaaS is being used and the name of the selected link, so you can see in Keeping which external reference is linked to a time entry.

With this new functionality, the extension is future-proof, independent of updates to supported SaaS, and thus a more reliable tool.

Direct Linking to the Current Page

Additionally, a blue button has been added in the time entry modal to start a time entry for the page you are currently viewing.

This is useful in apps like Asana and Jira, where right-clicking is not possible in the issue lists.

Labels and Dark Mode

Besides the updated Keeping style, the extension now supports labels, available in the Pro subscription. Additionally, dark mode has been implemented, with the extension adapting to your system’s color scheme.

Benefits of the New Extension

  • Up-to-date with the latest Google extension standards
  • Future-proof and reliable
  • Supports labels (or tags) and dark mode
